Seeds in the Geology Museum, UNAM
The exhibition Seeds presents the work of the artist Emily C-D, developed from her relationship with seeds and her participation in the Somos Semilla community library, in San Miguel de Allende.
The exhibition brings together 16 specially created watercolours that portray different varieties, highlighting the beauty and complexity found in the small. It is accompanied by a botanical display featuring herbarium specimens collected in Santa María la Ribera by biologists Lourdes Cruz Terán and Iván Pérez Samayoa, as well as a physical seed collection that invites a sensory experience complemented by descriptive data sheets.
The project is enriched with infographics based on the research of Dr. Isela Rodríguez Arévalo, which introduce current conservation challenges and their connection to food sovereignty.
Between art, science, and activism, the exhibition prompts reflection on the vital role of seeds and the urgency of preserving their diversity in the face of monocultures, hybrid seeds, and corporate interests that threaten both traditional agricultural systems and communities’ right to make decisions about their food.
